Spotify – Streaming Music On Your Desktop

Remember Napster? Remember Audio Galaxy?

Well Spotify is set to be as big as these programs with one difference… It’s legal..

You do need to sign up for an account but it is fast and simple… – And FREE!

The software can be downloaded from here and it is currently available for Windows and Mac…

Can it be run on Linux? – But of course. And it works well!

First you need to install wine for Linux… under Ubuntu open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install wine

This will set up wine and it means Spotify can be installed using the windows application download… right click and install using “Run with WINE”…

This will take you through the usual setup screens and then launch the program as below:

With this installed you can listen to almost any artist you want and then have direct links to buy music but without the DRM restrictions of iTunes!
